Legacy of the Jeep Wrangler
Although the Wrangler name only goes back to 2007, for many of us, its roots are much deeper than that. The legacy of the Wrangler goes back to the period before World War II when the United States Army began looking for a new solution for vehicles designed to be used in motorized warfare. In World War I, a number of different civilian trucks had been pressed into service, which meant that many different types of parts were needed to make repairs on them, and mechanics had to be able to adapt to major changes in the heat of battle.
Prior to World War II, the United States Army tasked several car companies with developing a new 4x4 reconnaissance vehicle that would be agile enough to manoeuvre on the battlefield, light enough to be easily transported, and with standard parts that would be simple to maintain. The end result was the original Willys Jeep, which became a staple of World War II, providing reliable transportation and going everywhere throughout the conflict. Allied soldiers fell in love with their Jeeps, and when they returned home, they wanted to use these vehicles in civilian life, which led to the production of the Civilian Jeep or CJ.
Although not officially a direct descendent of the CJ, the Wrangler is certainly its spiritual successor, which is clear from the fact that the Jeep Wrangler is an excellent daily driver that you can count on to get you anywhere. The original Jeep was a vehicle that could be used in any conditions, and the modern Wrangler still upholds that same spirit.
