The Legendary Ram 1500
Since its original release by Dodge in 1981, the Ram 1500 has been an industry leader in the truck segment of the automotive landscape. It has dutifully performed difficult tasks for its owners, including towing, hauling, off-roading, and of course, everyday driving. In 2010, the Ram came out from behind Dodge's shadow to become an independent division in the Chrysler family. While the Ram changed names, it maintained its core principles and its iconic Ram's head emblem.
Now in its fifth generation, this truck, found at any Ram 1500 dealer, stands out among the pack thanks to impeccable performance, incredible reliability, and interiors packed with convenience at the tips of your fingers. Ram has found the formula for award-winning truck design and released model after model of trucks that have earned accolades, including Motor Trend's Truck of the Year eight times. This full-size pickup earned every title through unbridled performance and innovations and continues to blow consumers away year after year.
2013 Ram 1500
First up on our list is the 2013 Ram 1500. As the oldest on the list, this model year is usually available at steep discounts due to its age and likely high mileage. But don't let that shake your confidence; the 2013 Ram 1500 can compete with the best of them. For 2013, the truck experienced an extensive redesign, including new styling, new powertrain options, and improvements to the fuel economy.
There are three engine options for the 2013 model year. The first available engine is a 3.6L Pentastar V6 that delivers 305 hp and is the most efficient of the bunch. Next, a 4.7L V8 offers 310 hp. Finally, those with a need for speed can find a used 2013 Ram 1500 with its available 5.7L HEMI V8 with its hair-raising output of 395 hp and 407 lb-ft of torque. The V6 is brand new for 2013, while the HEMI V8 sees a small power increase. Even the smallest available engine still offers an impressive towing capacity of up to 2,948 kg.
Slight adjustments to the 2013's interior include the addition of an 18 cm customizable instrument cluster and a 21 cm touchscreen infotainment center in the center stack of the top trims. Lower trims offer either a 13 cm touchscreen or a basic LCD display. On the exterior, larger tow hooks, new wheel designs, and a taller grille with an added bevelled edge and optional blacked-out or chrome mesh are available.
2016 Ram 1500 Rebel
The 2016 Ram 1500 Rebel is a special truck, regardless of whether you compare it to all Rams or all trucks, period. One of the characteristics that make this model so special is its off-roading-focused design. The addition of exclusive air suspension and a factory lift offers the driver increased ride height and ground clearance, making it easier to feel confident on rocky, uneven terrains. The Rebel's standard all-terrain tires look intimidating and function to handle off-roading conditions that include mud, sand, gravel, and slick surfaces. Plus, standard skid plates and tow hooks help you make the most of any adventure.
The 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine includes a 3.92 axle ratio for the 2016 model, or you can opt for the optional 5.7L HEMI V8 powertrain. At the time of its release, the 3.6L Pentastar engine was best-in-class for fuel economy and is still respectable today. Some enhancements to the Ram 1500 Rebel make for a more sporty and attractive aesthetic. The unique "RAM" grille is new for the 2016 model year and is a stark departure from previous grilles. This year offered more interior colours and materials, an all-black instrument panel, a heated steering wheel in semi-perforated black leather upholstery, and standard heated front seats to get you through the most brutal winter conditions.
2019 Ram 1500
Some landmark changes bring the 2019 Ram 1500 to our list. The fifth-generation Ram checks every box with more efficiency, new technology, reduced weight, and more. By reducing the weight of certain components, the 2019 Ram 1500 shaves around 100 kg off the trucks. This change adds to the fuel efficiency and practicality of the 2019 model. Similar tweaks account for this year's more aerodynamic exterior design. As for new conveniences, the 2019 Ram 1500 now features the 4x4 Off-Road Group, best known for its one-inch suspension lift, four-corner air suspension, electronic-locking rear differential, 32-inch all-terrain tires, Hill Descent Control, skid plates, and more. Tackle more of the outdoors than before with this readily available package.
Some of the 2019 model's other improvements include the addition of a Quad Cab configuration for the Rebel, hefty tow hooks, and a wider bumper. Available driver-assistance technology now includes Blind-Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Path Detection and Trailer Detection, which automatically accounts for the size of your trailer, Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, and a 360-degree Surround-View camera. As for the interior, enjoy more space in the cabin and a 30 cm Uconnect System.
